Early Evangelistic Efforts

My journey in evangelism began at the age of 19 when I invited my friend Jim Wilkinson to join me in preaching. Neither of us had much experience, but we decided to start with open-air meetings. Armed with a ukulele and Jim's powerful, albeit off-key, singing, we attracted crowds of curious onlookers. Our first attempt was thrilling, and we soon formed a band of 24 young men dedicated to this work. We kept a prayer journal, recording requests and answers, and witnessed God's faithfulness in providing a banjo mandolin, among other things.

A Leap of Faith

In 1932, I was offered a job in London to set up evangelistic work worldwide. However, the opportunity fell through when the man who offered it had to leave for a year. Despite this setback, I felt called to continue in ministry. My mother depended on me financially, but I assured her that God would provide. During the Great Depression, I traveled to Liverpool with only a bicycle, a change of clothes, a Bible, and a few shillings. I trusted God for my needs, and He provided in miraculous ways, such as a place to stay and meals.

God's Provision and Global Travels

Throughout my travels, I experienced God's provision repeatedly. In Copenhagen, I prayed for a place to stay and was led to a man who had been praying for my arrival. In Denmark, I preached to 500 people, and God provided accommodation through a Christian hotel. My journey took me to 154 countries, where I witnessed God's hand at work. In Soviet Russia, despite the challenges, I was granted a visa and experienced God's protection and provision.

Revival in Brazil

In 1951, I felt a strong urge to go to South America, despite my wife's concerns. In Brazil, I spoke about revival, and 81 churches in Sao Paolo began weekly prayer meetings. In 1952, the Brazilian Presbyterian Church invited me to speak about revival. Despite initial resistance, God moved powerfully, and we saw thousands converted. The revival was marked by packed prayer meetings and significant church growth, with the Bible Society calling it a "year of triumph."

The Power of Faith and Prayer

Throughout my life, I've learned that faith, even as small as a mustard seed, can move mountains. God's economy is different from ours; the more we use our faith, the more it grows. My experiences have shown that God answers prayer and provides for His people, often in unexpected ways. Revival is not just a theory; I've seen it firsthand in various places. The key is to wait upon God and be ready for Him to pour out His Spirit.

Closing Thoughts

As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the importance of sowing seeds and waiting on God for revival. My purpose in sharing these stories is to encourage others to trust in God's provision and to seek Him earnestly for revival. May we all be ready for the awakening that God desires to bring to His church.
